ESL PHOTOGRAPHY PROGRAM

The goal of this program is to create photographic opportunities and experiences for individuals who are learning English as a second language, by offering them an alternative means of self-expression, and at the same time teaching "hands on" language skills.

Workshop Aims


- A means of expression for individuals who are struggling with abilities to articulate themselves in a new cultural environment.

- Increased access to photography skills, equipment and practices by removing financial, cultural and language barriers.

- Offering students the time and opportunity to grow in artistic ways, while working on furthering their language skills.

- Creating a space to acknowledge and express cultural differences.

- Creating a support system for youth learning ESL.

- Offering a safe environment to express experiences and emotions.

- Assisting youth to express themselves in a new environment while emphasizing the importance of their individual cultures and histories.

- Building language skills through artistic, and technical abilities.

- An introduction to the photographic community.

Workshop Skills

Students will be introduced to a number of photographic skills including: camera operation, composition, black and white printing.
