Grant Writing Workshop

Allowing a look at the granting process from the inside, this workshop will help participants understand what is expected for individual artist grant applications. With a special focus on photography, this course will help artists get their message across to jurors clearly and effectively.

Outline of Session:
6:00 - Introduction to instructor
6:10 - 7:00 - What happens to your application once it is received by an arts council? An in-depth look at the granting process from the inside, including what jurors look for in an application package.
7:00 - 7:45 - What are the various granting categories available to visual artists, and which is best for you? Developing a relationship with funding bodies.
7:45 - 8:15 - Writing for your audience: why a grant proposal is different from an artist statement.
8:15 - 9:00 - Participants draft a basic proposal, with input from workshop leader.

About the instructor:
Barbara Gilbert worked in the Visual and Media Arts office of the Ontario Arts Council for over two years, and participated in more than 30 juries during that time. She has given granting workshops in Toronto, Ottawa, Guelph and Sudbury. She has received visual arts grants from the Toronto Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. Barbara is currently an Education Coordinator at the Art Gallery of Ontario.

We accept cash, cheque and VISA. Fees include GST and the cost of all or most materials. Participants must pay in advance to reserve a space and must cancel 10 days before the workshop date to receive a full refund (less $10). Gallery 44 reserves the right to cancel or reschedule workshops with a full refund.

Anyone attending workshops involving photo chemistry must read our health and safety outline and sign a waver prior to attending the workshop. Please note, pregnant women should not be exposed to photographic chemistry.
