Elise Rasmussen: She Doesn't Get the Rules

Elise Rasmussen: She Doesn't Get the Rules

November 23,
7:00PM to 9:00PM

She Doesn't Get the Rules is a performance lecture that explores the role of the muse through channeling the surrealist technique of automatism as a way to examine the inability for the avant-garde to be radical under a patriarchal capitalist system. Originally presented at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, Rasmussen expands on the original PowerPoint performance to incorporate layered interests in pop culture, power structures and the re-telling of art history through a feminist lens.

This event will be the first in our public programming series Field of Vision. Field of Vision is Gallery 44’s new thematic public programming series exploring the larger conversations surrounding photography and contemporary image culture. Taking a variety of forms - performance lectures, artist talks, readings, dinner parties, film screenings – each programming year will explore a theme and its relevance to contemporary image making practices and dialogues. Our first theme, Feminist Citation, looks at how knowledge is reproduced and attempts to shift and expand the kinds of knowledge that are brought forward.
