About the Exhibition:

Astronomy and photography have a closely related history that has often sought out proof of observation in the cosmos, giving dimension and definition to these distant points of light once thought of as Gods. Our documentation of the cosmos didn’t begin with photography though, but has a storied history from Venus’ guiding presence in Homeric poetry, to ornate Baroque atlases, to the recent imaging of the cosmic microwave background — a relic of the big bang. Yet through all of these evolutions in understanding we remain human, with only one tree of life to compare to an otherwise lifeless space.

As new technologies bring us a better understanding of astronomy, simultaneously more densely populated cities with light pollution distance us from a personal relationship with the night sky. Cosmichronos explores the changing relationship humanity has with the vastness of the cosmos and our understanding of deep time.
