About the Exhibition:

Style Life is an exhibition that addresses consumption and identity through various forms of objects and photographs. The work exists as a disclosure of personal experience and self-actualization through objects  that present shallowness as something maybe deeper. Using décor, Justin explores the use of decoration in the form of clothing, objects and images as representations of identity, rebirth, and self-awareness. The exhibition blurs both 3-dimensionality and 2-dimensionality to create confusing representations of space, personal and objective, functioning as both mirrors and portals. Coming from a queer perspective, Style Life looks towards emptiness, openness, shallowness and narcissism as windows to reveal information about our experience with developing ourselves. Consumption = momentum.

Justin Somjen is a Toronto-based artist who works in photography, sculpture and installation. His work blends photography and sculpture together to  create formal allegories that explore abstraction, the relationship between flatness and depth, identity, and lifestyle. He studied photography at Ryerson University where he received his BFA in 2014. He has exhibited work in Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, and Toronto.
