Eric Fong was born in Hong Kong and completed medical school in Canada. Throughout his years as a physician, Fong has pursued a parallel artistic practice which examines many of the issues which concern him as a doctor: Western culture’s mind/body split, technological advances in prognosis and treatment, and the fragmented nature of bodily exploration and treatment. Building mixed media sculptures using stainless-steel light boxes, and human bones, Fong’s work approximates medical research models, inciting questions on the nature of medical research, and its impact on our understanding of the human body.
