Introduction to the 4x5 Camera

Introduction to the 4x5 Camera

Saturday, November 18, 2017 -
11:00 to 17:00
$ 120.00 CAD
$ 100.00 CAD

This workshop  is an in-depth look at how to use a large-format 4x5 film camera.

Paul Sergeant, founder of The TinType Studio, will guide participants as they learn to load 4x5 sheet film, shoot 2 images in studio, develop their own negatives, and print a contact print! Enlargements may also be made, time permitting. As Gallery 44 has recently acquired a 4x5 camera for members to rent, this will be an ideal way to become familiarized with this exciting camera.

This workshop is a wonderful compliment to the Advanced 4x5 Camera workshop being held on Saturday March 11th, 2017.

Paul Sergeant studied at the Ontario College of Art & Design where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography. He also holds a Master of Photographic Preservation and Collections Management from Ryerson University and studied intensively at the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film in Rochester, NY. Sergeant is the Archive and Print Manager for world-renowned photographer Edward Burtynsky. He is also a professor of Experimental Historical & Contemporary Photography at OCAD University. Sergeant founded The Tintype Studio, expanding on his fascination with history and early photographic processes.
